SCHOLARSHIPS

Beit Trust Graduate Scholarships are accepted annually and offer a series of Graduate Scholarships for Research and Study Abroad to scholars from Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.

The Beit Trust Postgraduate Scholarships awarded 18 new scholarships at British and South African universities, through substantial academic partnerships with leading institutions, to study in a person-choice program suited to the needs of their nation. The duration is usually one year of master’s degree taught in the UK and two years in South Africa. There are six partner universities in the UK: Edinburgh, Cambridge, Leeds, Glasgow, Oxford, and Strathclyde. There are currently three active partners in South Africa: Stellenbosch, Rhodes, and UCT.

Candidates with admissions from the listed universities will be qualified for Beit Trust Postgraduate Scholarships. Candidates must first apply and be accepted by a Beit Partner University before applying for a scholarship to the Trust.

The Trust does not consider MBA applicants. This application process is now open. Please read the eligibility requirements below before attempting to apply. The Trust will only consider applicants who are eligible and qualified to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Beit Trust ONLY supports students who are citizens of Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Malawi, who have permanent residence, live there, and/or intend to return to their country after their studies.
  • Applicants (excluding doctors and veterinarians) must be under the age of 30 as of December 31, 2021. Relevant work experience after completing the first degree is highly recommended and will count towards a scholarship award.
  • Physicians and veterinarians must be under the age of 35 as of December 31, 2021. They must have completed 18 months of internship and one year, preferably rural, in Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Malawi.
  • The Trust cannot consider applications from those who have already started a course.
  • The Trust will only consider applicants with First Class / Distinction or Second Upper-Class degrees (or equivalent) at the undergraduate level.

VALUE OF THE BEIT TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

  • Fees, tuition costs, and related academic expenses. These are paid by the Trust directly to the partner universities.
  • A personal allowance, which covers maintenance.
    Other benefits are paid on arrival, a laptop, and departure.
  • Economy class tickets are provided for the initial trip to the study site and the final return.
  • No allowances are paid for spouses and other family members or dependents.
  • The Trust will also address expenses that may arise in 2022/23 as a result of Covid’s residual protocols.

How to Apply for Beit Trust Graduate Scholarships

  • Apply directly to one or more of the partner universities listed above, and only to those universities. Apply through their websites, they will guide you.
  • Notify the appropriate university, as part of your study application, that you will be approaching the Beit Trust to obtain scholarship funds.
  • As long as the courses you want to follow are available, you can apply to more than one Partner University at the same time. To increase your chances of acceptance and expand the scholarship opportunities available.
  • Once you have an offer from your chosen partner University, you should apply for a scholarship as soon as possible from The Beit Trust.
